    It has begun

Posted on October 31, 2015 by Den Hoopingarner

Central heating officially turns on tomorrow. Today the furnaces are “initiating,” i.e., belching coal dust into the air. Last year on this date, the AQI was off the scale at over 500. It’s already at 185 at 7:00am. Happy Halloween!

    Night scenery in North Korea

Posted on October 25, 2015 by Den Hoopingarner

I took this picture standing on the Chinese side of the Yalu River, looking across to North Korea. If you zoom in, you can see a few lights. Other than that, there’s a lot of darkness over there.

Dandong 丹東 is a city on the Yalu River, right across from North Korea.
